The mission of Green Hills Group is restoration of forest ecosystems and conservation of biodiversity, particularly focussing on the degraded forest patches in the urban area. We follow Assisted Restoration technique in which the process of restoration is kick-started by human intervention by planting trees in a degraded forest site; after which the natural processes take over and turn it into a forest patch in the long-run.
As a strategy, we only plant the native species of trees which are found in the area (geo-climatic zone). These have better chance of survival as well as they support native fauna of the region – thus conserving the biodiversity. We select species which are naturally found in the moist deciduous and dry deciduous forests prevalent in the Pune District as we fall in the transition zone of the Sahyadri Mountain range.
